{Don’t} Say “Cheese”

Family and Facebook have been inundated these past two months with adorable photos of Benjamin. If people didn’t know better, they would assume Benjamin was an only child, as new photos of Oliver have become a rarity.

This lack of photo sharing has nothing to do with waning cuteness or a decrease in fondness for our first-born darling, and everything to do with the advent of the “cheeeeeeeese face.” The appearance of a camera elicits a Pavlovian response in Oliver, prompting him to freeze in place and slap on a face-scrunching smile while he yells “cheeeeeeeese” through gritted teeth. Like this:

Ultra-Cheese (at least he exhibits a range of cheesiness)

Extra-Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Subdued Cheese

Mild Cheddar Cheese

On the bright side, at least he exhibits a range of cheesiness. And, on the even brighter side, at least the cheese-response tends to trump his other camera expression … the “gold digger.”
