This, not that

Oliver has a word, “THIS.” Now that may not seem particularly impressive, but when you see the mileage our little guy manages to get out of that one simple syllable, you cannot help but be amazed.

He started out using it as a question, saying “This?” as he held out various objects — i.e., Can I have this? or, What is this?

Then, he advanced to also using it as a command, saying “THIS!” as he pointed frantically at the object of his immediate desire — i.e., I want THIS, and I want THIS NOW!

And, most recently, he has managed to turn it into a whine whenever he wants something he knows he cannot have — i.e., Can I please have “thiiiiiisssss” bottle of bleach/pocket knife/cup of coffee?

Sweet, funny little monkey.
