Last Thursday you turned six months old. It is absolutely unbelievable how much you have grown and changed in this past half-year.
You still have the same bright, huge chocolate-colored eyes, but your luscious mane has turned from black to brown. You still smile all the time, but your once gummy grin now reveals a startling number of emerging pearly whites.
You are sitting up all on your own, but you prefer to be on your tummy, showing off your amazing upper-body strength by doing planks and push-ups … over and over and over again. You spend a lot of time up on all fours, and are so, so close to figuring out this whole crawling business. Mommy and Daddy are still in denial though, as evidenced by the lack of baby gates and other indicia of proper child-proofing in our home.
Your favorite “people” are your furry brothers. Your face lights up and you squeal with delight whenever Max or Zak enters your line of sight. You have not quite figured out the concept of petting, but luckily they are being patient while you figure it out. We just hope they still have fur left when the time comes.
You are now taking all of your naps in the crib. Or, rather, you are taking at least a portion of all of your naps in the crib; sometimes you still want to be held and rocked while you sleep, and Mommy is more than happy to oblige. You have also kicked your swaddle habit, with the help of Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit. It keeps you cozy and calm but also makes you look like the Michelin Tire Baby.
You love to say Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma over and over, and you make the funniest face when you do it (you suck in your lips and puff out your cheeks). In fact, you like making this sound so much that you often wake up in the middle of the night to practice.
You hold onto me when I pick you up, and give me hugs and “kisses.” You smile whenever your Daddy or I enter the room, making us feel like the most important people in the world.
You have figured out how to throw things, and will frequently launch your binky all the way across your nursery when you don’t want to take a nap. You like to “sing” yourself to sleep.
You are ticklish under your arms, and think your Daddy is the funniest person in the whole world; a mere shake of his head can have you in stitches.
Your favorite place in the world is the local park, where you will spend hours swinging in the baby swing and laying on a blanket watching the bigger kids play. Your favorite food is avocado, and your favorite book is Goodnight Moon.
You are an adrenaline junky. You love being tossed in the air, swung by your ankles, and bounced up and down on the bed. You laugh like a maniac when we let you “fall” backwards onto a pile of down pillows.
Little man, your Daddy and I find you endlessly fascinating. We could (and frequently do) spend hours laying on the floor of your nursery, watching you play and explore, sharing in your excitement as you discover yet another amazing thing your body can do. You have brought so much laughter and joy into our lives. No words could ever express how happy you make us.
I love you.
