Before you were conceived, I wanted you
Before you were born, I loved you
Before you were here an hour, I would die for you
This is the miracle of love.

Sunday was my very First Mother’s Day, and what a great Mother’s Day it turned out to be! First, Oliver slept from 9pm to 3am, and then went back down until 6:30am. Considering the little guy usually gets up every 1.5 hours starting at 1:30am, and then starts his day at 5:30am, this was a major treat. The real icing on the cake, however, was his excellent mood. He is almost always a sweet and smiley guy, but he really cranked the charm into overdrive on Mother’s Day. He was all smiles and coos from sunrise to sunset.
Mother’s Day was also exciting because Oliver started (successfully) mimicking sounds and facial expressions — he had been trying to do this for a while, but Sunday it finally clicked into place. First, we were laying on the sofa together and I was puckering my lips at him when he started doing it right back at me. He would concentrate so hard on getting his mouth into the right position, and then as soon as he got it, he would say “oooooh!” and break into a huge gummy grin! Later, we were Skyping with Vik’s dad when he started saying “Ah! Ah! Ah!” to Oliver. Oliver immediately said “Ah! Ah! Ah!” right back. Cutest things ever from the cutest baby ever!
Days like Sunday remind me that although being Oliver’s Mommy is often exhausting, frustrating, and overwhelming, it is also incredibly fun, rewarding, and fulfilling. For every moment where I feel like collapsing from exhaustion or breaking down in tears of frustration, there are a hundred more where I feel like my heart is so full of love and joy that it will explode right out of my chest. I just cannot believe I have hit the jackpot twice — how lucky am I to have two of the world’s most charming, sweet, and handsome guys in my life?!?
